Driving Mr. Green

The first luxury I'll indulge on when I reach financial independence is a car service. I can't stand driving.

Today's mail brought $125 in checks, with $120 being a health-care rebate for out-of-pocket costs and $5 a store-purchase rebate.

The $120 almost didn't come through, because we lost some of the documentation, but my wife (who handles the health-care matters) followed up and we secured the money. It would have been a great shame had we let it slide.

I forget what the $5 rebate was in regard to, but I put in for these store rebates whenever possible. The process is often convoluted and the cost of postage mitigates some of the small gain, but I enjoy the small return and use the proceeds for discretionary accounts that I build up over time.

I wrote to my primary bank yesterday and shared my thoughts on some customer-service issues. I haven't heard back yet, but I'll be curious to see the response. I'm not fond of changing banks because of the hassle factor, but I'm keeping this option open.
